As delivered from the factory, autoclaves and washing machines are capable of a very wide range of different processing cycles. During commissioning they will be set up to the specific characteristics of the site utilities supplied (particularly steam). Systems qualification will have proved every aspect of the operation of the unit. However, the next step is as critical as any. It is necessary to develop a cycle that delivers a process – be it sterilisation, washing, depyrogenation – which is:

• Effective and achieves all the regulatory process requirements
• Repeatable, not just during validation, but robustly, month in month out
• Energy efficient
• Time efficient
• Safe

This is a highly skilled task. Selected senior personnel from SteriTech are trained in the use of the specialised testing equipment needed – thermal mapping, for example – and have a very sound understanding of the fundamentals of the processes in use, a thorough knowledge of the full capabilities of the equipment, and above all a wealth of experience.
